If I bought a very expensive baseball glove, bat, golf club, or even a $5000 bike, and I’m not a professional does it look weird?

Some of the road bikes out there are in the $5000 range. Should I be interested in those kinds of bikes only if I’m also serious about being in the Tour de France and not just a being weekend rider?

Looking forward to your own opinions.
